The Extremaduran Friends of the railroad association has criticized that the work of the Extremadura high-speed train continues at a “very slow” pace, despite the latest announcements and investments made.

The president of the group, Ángel Caballero, explained that, despite the latest movements, “few green shoots are visible.”

As he recalled, last year the line was published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) four times and this 2018, for the moment, there has only been one tender, so the pace must be much higher for the awards to arrive.

It considers that, at this rate and if the forecasts are met, in 2020 Extremadura will have only a quarter of the high-speed line committed since 2010.

In his opinion, the terms given for 2019 will be “met”, but because at the moment the “old track” will be used in many sections, and therefore the only change that year will be a “better than the current” train.

EVA

Caballero has argued that with Renfe’s decision to implement the new EVA ticket for the AVE, it is “more important than ever” that Extremadura be able to communicate with Madrid through high speed.

As detailed, there is no longer any excuse to question whether the AVE will be accepted in Extremadura if prices are expensive, since high speed will be used by a large number of people.

He has also regretted the absence of progress on the conventional line Cabeza del Buey-Puertollano and hopes that the latest announcements will be fulfilled, because “without bidding, works will not start this summer, as is the commitment.”

“The rhythm of the works of the train in Extremadura, both high-speed and conventional, can be summed up in three words: slow, tiresome and boring”, has affected.
