Comboios de Portugal launched a line on August 29 to connect the Portuguese Alentejo by train and, incidentally, bring it closer to Badajoz.
The commitment of the Portuguese public manager is very modest: a daily service, a single car with 94 seats and 16 stops from the center of the country to the border.
Although anecdotal and not very operational, the line allows, at least, to link Badajoz and Portugal by train.
Technically, you can now go from the Carolina Coronado station to the Lisbon station, although neither the timetable nor the itinerary are attractive.
The trip starts every afternoon at 4:24 p.m. to go to Entroncamento, in the center of Portugal. Entrocamento is a communications hub in which travelers are diverted to Porto in the north and Lisbon in the south. The road book of the public railway company estimates that the machine that leaves Badajoz arrives at this point at 18.25 (Portuguese time). If there are no delays or unforeseen events, the most immediate transfer to Lisbon departs at 18:58 from this station to arrive at Lisbon Oriente at 19:52.
The journey to the Portuguese capital, therefore, is made in four and a half hours of travel and for twenty-four euros of ticket, twelve for each section.
To the inconvenience of time we must add that of frequency. There is only one service a day and it is in the afternoon. It is not surprising, therefore, that the newly launched railway connection goes unnoticed by Badajoz travelers.
