The objective is to allow access to Merida for “high speed” traffic once the new connection to Extremadura that is currently under construction has been put into service. The works have a term of execution of four months.
Once “renewed”, therefore, this section will allow “linking” the high-speed platform with Mérida, “while the new by-pass for access to the Extremaduran capital is being built, with full guarantees of safety and functionality,” he points out. ADIF in a press release.
These renovation works will also allow us to “improve” the reliability of the section in which this morning the railway service had to be interrupted between approximately 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as a result of a rail break.
ADIF’s commitment to “improve” the Extremadura railway network, in this and other sections, in order to “avoid” incidents and offer users a quality service, is also evident (according to said entity) with the investment made last July to supply the materials necessary for its execution, such as ballast and sleepers.
Thus, the supply of ballast, which was awarded in July of this year and includes the acquisition of 14,000 tons of this material, represents an investment of 253,979 euros (VAT included). Likewise, last July, the supply and transport of 22,000 sleepers was awarded for an amount of 1,905,207 euros (VAT included).
