In the explanatory memorandum of the proposal, they state that “improving communications in Toledo is a permanent objective of this City Council due to the central position enjoyed by the regional capital.”
They also highlight that its proximity to Madrid and its good road communications with the capital of Spain make Toledo “a privileged enclave for the installation of companies and the development of logistics activities”.
Also, “Toledo is visited annually by more than two million people”, due to its monumental and heritage wealth that made it worthy of the title of World Heritage City, now 30 years ago.
And, on the other hand, Toledo “needs to follow its economic, social and employment momentum, for which its industrial development is of great importance, in which the freight train is a fundamental element”, the motion continues.
At this point, they recall that the Ministry of Public Works has put out to tender the drafting of the informative study of the railway line project for the Madrid-Oropesa section of the Madrid-Extremadura High-speed corridor and “handles the incorporation of Toledo into this route as an optimal alternative ”
This would allow the people of Toledo to communicate by High Speed with Talavera, Cáceres, Mérida and with Portugal, “which would mean that Toledo will no longer be a bag of money for high speed.”
The informative study also opens the possibility of recovering rail freight for Toledo and, at this point, the Ministry asks the editors of the project to analyze the connection with the Villaverde-Alcázar de San Juan conventional rail corridor, either through of the Castillejo-Toledo line or through new route alternatives.
