Adif and Renfe are “aware” of the reality that motivates the claims of the Extremaduran that have demonstrated today in Madrid to demand a “dignified” train for the region, and They have ensured that the solution of the situation of the railway in Extremadura is “a priority”.
They come to agree with the demonstration of thousands of people from Extremadura, who with a unique and demanding voice have demanded “a decent train now” for the region, in which it is possibly the largest mobilization of the citizens of this community, which in the 21st century has a single-track railway network,
Adif sources have highlighted that the pending investments for the completion of the new high-speed infrastructure (2,448 million euros) place this Autonomous Community as one of those with the highest volume of investment expected in the short and medium term in the State as a whole.
Thus, they explained, the investment is only comparable with the High-Speed Line (LAV) Murcia-Almería (2,546 million euros) or that of Zaragoza-Pamplona-Y Vasca (2,326 million euros).
The LAV Madrid-Extremadura , which is part of the so-called Atlantic Corridor, has a total budget estimate of 3,448 million euros, with three different sectors: Madrid-Oropesa; Oropesa (Talayuela) – Plasencia (68.6 kilometers) and Plasencia-Badajoz (164.6 kilometers).
According to Adif, the work plan foresees that the high-speed works between Plasencia and Badajoz will be completed in 2019, in addition to undertaking an improvement to the current network that improves service while high-speed arrives to Extremadura.
The high-speed platform between Plasencia and Badajoz , a section that has an estimated cost of 1,473 million euros, would enter service in 2019 (with diesel traction trains) and The electrification of the line will take place in 2020 , which will already allow the circulation of trains with electric traction.
With the commissioning of this platform, Badajoz will be connected to the peninsular center in 3 hours and 46 minutes , 1 hour and 22 minutes less than the best current time, says Adif.
Meanwhile, the Talayuela (Oropesa) -Plasenci a section has an investment of 855 million euros planned.
For the connection between Madrid and Oropesa , a new solution is envisaged to replace the one previously planned, which established the connection with the Madrid-Seville LAV in Pantoja (Toledo).
The passage through Toledo, according to Adif, would mean a saving of 110 million euros . With an estimated cost of 1,120 million euros, this solution would thus allow the connection of the most populated cities on the route and cities with historical heritage: Toledo, Talavera, Plasencia, Cáceres, Mérida and Badajoz and would give continuity to merchandise traffic to and from Madrid.
While the new LAV comes into service, works have been carried out to improve the conventional network between Humanes (Madrid) and Monfragüe (Cáceres), on the Madrid-Badajoz line; on the Aljucén and Carrascalejo route, in the province of Badajoz, and between Castuera (Badajoz) and Brazatortas (Ciudad Real), within the Puertollano line (Ciudad Real) and Badajoz.
