New boost to railway infrastructure. The Governing Council of the Board yesterday approved the signing of two collaboration agreements with Adif for the connection of the Badajoz logistics platform and the business parks of Mérida and Navalmoral de la Mata, for amounts of 12.1 and 292,280 euros.

As regards the Badajoz logistics platform, the agreement includes the drafting of the project and the construction of the intermodal rail freight terminal, for which the regional Executive will contribute 12.1 million euros. As explained by the Minister for the Environment and Rural Affairs, Agrarian Policies and Territory, Begoña García Bernal, the objective of the work is for the platform to have access to the railway network in Spain and Portugal. The agreement will be signed today and the works must be completed within two years.

In the counselor’s opinion, this action “comes to confirm with facts, not with promises and words”, that steps continue to be taken so that Badajoz has made available “a loigist platform and not an industrial estate”. Thus, he explained that this infrastructure will be “a first-level transportation hub that will put Extremadura on the map of the major transportation hubs in southern Europe.”

García Bernal highlighted that the platform “continues to meet its deadlines for the execution of work” of the first phase of the 60 hectares, and also that the drafting of the project for the second and third part of another 75 hectares has already been awarded. In addition, the two roundabouts that will join the platform with the Campomaior road and the A-5 will be awarded shortly, for about three million euros. “Facts are loves and here this government, without great eloquence, without announcements, without first stones, sets in motion what is an important logistics strategy for this region,” said the counselor.

INDUSTRIAL PARKS / In this same line of promoting the transport of goods, the Government Council yesterday agreed to sign another agreement with Adif for the drafting of projects for the railway terminals of the industrial parks of Expacio Mérida and Expacio Navalmoral. In this case, the Board will contribute 292,280 euros and the maximum execution period will be eight months, so the works could be put out to tender at the end of this year.
