On November 8, in the Badajoz Siglo XXI building, the First Cross-Border Business Forum of the Iberian Southwest Corridor was held, organized by the Extremadura Networked business platform. In, sixty businessmen and professionals from Extremadura and Alentejo, analyzed the situation of the transport infrastructure of the Iberian Southwest Corridor and future expectations.
Thematic work panels were organized in which the different businessmen expressed their ideas in relation to what the corridor could entail in the Tourism, Gastronomic, sports, events, services, logistics and industrial, knowledge and innovation and agri-food aspects. It was seen how deficient transport affects each area and how these sectors with better railway communication routes between Lisbon and Madrid can be affected.
A roadmap was proposed to make the Iberian Southwest Corridor a reality as soon as possible, which among other milestones highlights the achievement, as the Ministry of Public Works has already promised that in 2020 a High Performance train may be operating between Madrid and Lisbon, in 2020 the new freight line for high-capacity trains between Sines and Madrid, and the objective of achieving a complete High-Speed line by 2023. In support of this Roadmap, attendees made a joint photo of claim to the governments of Portugal and Spain.
The movement from Extremadura was supported by a Train Worthy Now! led by the Social and Political Pact by the Extremadura Railway, encouraging attendees and society to be present at the concentration in Madrid on November 18 by a TRAIN WORTHY NOW.
The need to continue generating support and a favorable opinion on investment in transport infrastructure in Extremadura was raised, especially in Madrid and Lisbon, where the platform will have an impact in 2018.
