The Minister of Public Works, Íñigo de la Serna , affirmed this Tuesday in the Senate that “not a single meter” of the AVE Extremadura-Madrid will be delayed because there is not enough budget and has insisted that the works will end the summer of 2018 to open the service from 2019 .
De la Serna has made these statements in response to the question from the socialist senator, Rafael Damián Lemus , who has asked the Government if he considers that the situation of the railway in Extremadura can be considered adequate “to the times we live in ”
Thus, De la Serna has insisted that the Government will continue working “tirelessly” to improve the peninsular railway connection. “For us, the AVE Extremadura-Madrid is a top priority , so we are going to present an informative study to invest 1,120 million euros,” he said.
As for the investments to connect other sections within the Extremaduran community, such as the section between Plasencia and Badajoz, the Government has explained that it plans to invest 955 million, which would add to the more than 800 of the previous section.
