The Rail Infrastructure Administrator (Adif) has finished the work that will allow the time it takes to travel from Barcelona to Castellón, or vice versa, to be cut in half an hour. This is the Vandellós variant, which will shortly mean eliminating the current bottleneck that constitutes the 30 kilometers of single track that currently exist between this city and Tarragona.
This same week, the Minister of Public Works, Íñigo de la Serna, in response to the congressman to the deputy of Unidos Podemos-En Comú Podem-En Marea Josep Vendrell, pointed out that the winning companies have just “finished a few days ago the great work of the Mediterranean corridor from Tarragona to Vandellós, which will reduce public transport on Euromed trains by half an hour ».
In this way, Fomento has complied with its announcements, in which it aimed at the end of this year for the conclusion of these works, which were paralyzed for several years.
shorter tests // In this way, after the completion of the works, they have “started the period of circulation in tests” on this route, De la Serna informed the Catalan deputy. These should be much shorter than those that have been taking place since last March on the section between València and Castellón. Not surprisingly, in the Vandellós variant, a double track has been implemented in exclusive Iberian gauge (in the future the third lane will have to be implemented) and the tests do not cover the complication of the Castellón stretch, with the mixed gauge.
In addition, the minister noted that they are advancing “in the procedures to start the works” on the Castellbisbal-Vila-seca section – one of the great obstacles to the completion of the Mediterranean corridor between València and Barcelona – worth “367 million euros, “said the popular.
The Secretary of State for Infrastructures, Julio Gómez-Pomar, also pointed out in the Committee for the Promotion of Congress, in an interlocution of the deputy of Republican Esquerra Laura Castel, that the tests have already begun between Vandellós and Tarragona. Regarding the contiguous section, the one that goes from Vandellós to Castellón, confirmed that “the width change will be carried out on the existing platform”, for which the projects are being drafted, the works of which are expected to culminate “in 2020”, as already announced by Mediterráneo.
Regarding the arrival of the AVE from València, Gómez-Pomar was only able to point out that “the third lane on one of the roads is in the testing phase and we are already working on the implementation on the other road” and that “it has been a new international gauge track has been planned »whose contract« was tendered in September ».
