11/23/2017 – BARCELONA (EFE). The municipal group of Barcelona En Comú, led by Mayor Ada Colau, will present a proposal tomorrow in the plenary session of the City Council to jointly face the city of Valencia in claiming the promotion of the Mediterranean Corridor.

The proposal that will be presented in plenary calls for a change in the current policy of interurban infrastructure that is the responsibility of the PP Government, reports BComú.

The initiative aims to ratify the claim of Barcelona and Valencia so that the Ministry of Development gives priority to the situation of the railway in both cities, both in commuter and long distance and freight transport.

Barcelona En Comú considers that the railway problems that both Barcelona and Valencia have in common are the connection with cities and ports, as well as the urban integration of the railroad through both cities.

“The two cities suffer from the PP government’s contempt for the Mediterranean corridor. This situation, unjust and unjustifiable from any point of view, is only explained by political discrimination that must be corrected with the corresponding reparative effort, without which Approach gestures may stay in new smokescreens, “the statement said.

The priorities for Barcelona are the substitution of the single road between Vandellòs and Tarragona for the variant that has been under construction for years and the availability of international gauge from Barcelona to Algeciras, “enabling the direct passage of goods and passengers to the center Europe in time and European level competitive services. ”

The connection to the network of the ports of Barcelona, Tarragona, Castellón, Sagunto, València, Alicante and Algeciras, and sufficient service capacity for goods and neighborhoods along the corridor are other claims of this municipal group.

On July 20, the mayors of Barcelona and Valencia signed a political declaration on infrastructure and other issues of common interest, including institutional support for the Mediterranean Corridor.
